  • Wer nie sein Brot mit Tränen aß,
    Wer nie die kummervollen Nächte
    Auf seinem Bette weinend saß,
Der kennt euch nicht, ihr himmlischen Mächte.

Suonatore di Liuto - Antiveduto GrammaticaThis year we are celebrating the 450th anniversary of John Dowland's birth. I think that he deserves some room on this blog, so we can listen to Alfred Deller and Desmond Duprés performing Flow my tears.

Song of the week: Armida's Garden (H. Parry) - L. Dawson, M. Martineau

Armida e Rinaldo nel giardino - TiepoloI didn't know the song Armida's Garden, nor the composer, Hubert Parry, until I heard of them on Twitter, thanks to Nigel Foster and Kristy Swift; they are @armidasgarden Art Song Duo. We can listen to that lovely song performed by Lynne Dawson and Malcolm Martineau.

Song of the week: Meeres Stille (F. Schubert) - B. Terfel, M. Martineau

Rooms by the Sea - Hopper

Thank you very much to Carles Mitjà for nominating me for the Versatile Blogger Award. It's a pleasure to play by the rules and nominate, in turn, 15 blogs. Some of them are written in English, so I've added my reasons in English as well.

As usual, we'll also be listening to a song: Meeres Stille,  by Schubert, performed by Bryn Terfel and Malcolm Martineau.

Song of the week: Storchenboschaft (H. Wolf) - H. Schlusnuss, S. Peschko

Simon KeenlysideI'm so glad to share with you a very special post. Not being a journalist might be a problem when it comes to doing an interview, especially when it is your first one. But if you follow this blog you'll know that the interviewee is one of my favourite Art Song singers; although I lacked professionalism, I was really excited about the interview so I hope I'll be able to transmit these feelings. I want to thank Simon Keenlyside for his cordiality and his generosity; it was a pleasure to be able to spend some time with him.

Zwei am Meerstrand - Emil NoldeI announced a very special post for today but we'll have to wait a few days... In the meantime, why don't we listen to a happy song by Schubert? Bei dir allein, performed by Simon Keenlyside and Malcolm Martineau.
